dije Community Check-Ins provide spaces to share experiences, build connections, and communicate support needed from the dije team and Marsal Community, centering specific community experiences. The dije team will provide community guidelines and a basic structure to facilitate a conversation. With that said, we hope that all of you attending will truly guide the conversation based on what comes front of mind to you!

For this event, we will center on the diversity of disability identities. In this space we will commit to not asking for others medical diagnoses or questions about health or disability. Rather, attendees should share experiences they feel comfortable sharing in the space. This is an opportunity to learn about the range of experiences, barriers, accomplishments, and supports needed by community members with differing needs in Marsal's physical and digital spaces.

This event is open to all Marsal Community members, including students (enrolled in an Education program OR taking at least one Education class), staff, faculty, and student-employees.

We hope this sessions will provide spaces to share a diversity of experiences, support needed from the Marsal community to overcome common barriers and inequities in U.S. educational spaces salient to identity, and build connections.

For this event, we will center on first-generation college student experiences. First-generation college students are those whose parent(s) have not completed a four-year college or university degree, regardless of other family members' level of education. This can have implications for the support needed for first-generation students as they navigate college settings. In contrast, those whose parents completed a four-year degree may benefit from the knowledge and practical lessons learned by their parents as they navigated institutional spaces. Faculty and Staff who can provide insights from their own experiences are encouraged to come!

This event is open to all Marsal Community members, including students (enrolled in an Education program OR taking at least one Education class), staff, faculty, and student-employees.

For this event, we will center on diverse migration experiences. "Diverse migration experiences" encapsulate many things! This includes the experiences of students who spent time in their formative years in countries outside of the US, first-generation American citizens, adoptees with connections abroad, and/or holding the status of non-US citizens, including international students, refugees, asylees, DACA students, Fulbright scholars, and other relevant statuses. We want to remind all that this is a space where students will not be pressured to share their migration statuses. All are welcome to share whatever is most safe and comfortable to them.

This event is open to all Marsal Community members, including students (enrolled in an Education program OR taking at least one Education class), staff, faculty, and student-employees.

Join the Office of Alumni Relations and Office of Diversity, Inclusion, Justice, and Equity for a conversation with two accomplished UM education graduates selected as Alumni Award Recipients based on their life's mission of furthering education and promoting diversity, inclusion, justice, and equity in education. We will facilitate a free-flowing conversation between Marsal Community members and our two awardees about a full range of experiences and accomplishments. We hope these experiences will inspire all of us in our academic, research, teaching, and other educational pursuits to promote diversity, inclusion, justice, and equity at the Marsal Family School of Education and beyond.

Click here to access to learn more about our two esteemed alumni, Julian Vasquez Heilig and Andrew Kwok, and be sure to jot down some questions you may have about these experiences!

We look forward to seeing you join in on the conversation!
