Discover the beauty of Indonesian traditional music.

Angklung is a traditional Indonesian musical instrument made from bamboo, originating from West Java. It produces sound when the bamboo tubes are shaken, causing them to vibrate and create musical notes. Because each angklung is tuned to a single pitch, players must work together to perform melodies, making it a highly collaborative instrument.

There are several types of angklung, including Angklung Kanekes, Angklung Dogdog Lojor, and Angklung Padaeng, each used in different cultural traditions and musical performances in Indonesia.

In this interactive Angklung Musical Workshop, participants will learn to play the angklung, a traditional Indonesian bamboo instrument. This musical workshop offers participants an engaging introduction to Indonesian music, highlighting the rich traditions of angklung. Guided by facilitators, attendees will explore each instrument’s cultural significance through interactive history, demonstrations, and hands-on learning. The event fosters community as participants play together, experiment creatively with rhythms, and reflect on their experience—building excitement for the upcoming Indonesian Cultural Festival Night.

Explore the art of Indonesia’s iconic textile tradition.

The Batik Coloring Workshop offers a hands-on opportunity to learn about the cultural significance of batik, Indonesia’s traditional wax-resist dyeing technique. Participants will be introduced to the batik-making process and create their own design using traditional tools such as canting, wax, and fabric. This workshop celebrates Indonesian craftsmanship while allowing participants to create a unique cultural souvenir.

Batik is a traditional Indonesian textile art, especially associated with the island of Java, where patterns are created on cloth using a wax-resist dyeing technique. It has been practiced for centuries and remains an important part of Indonesian culture today, worn in daily life, ceremonies, and formal events. The word “batik” is commonly linked to the Javanese words amba meaning “to write” and titik meaning “dot,” reflecting the detailed designs made on the fabric.

Batik has many motifs, each carrying symbolic meanings and cultural significance. In the past, certain motifs such as Parang Rusak, Sawat Garuda, and Udan Liris were reserved for royalty in Javanese kingdoms. Over time, batik designs evolved, with many patterns becoming more stylized and featuring floral and geometric elements.

Experience Indonesia through film.

Our Movie Screening event will feature Gundala (2019), one of Indonesia’s most iconic modern superhero films directed by Joko Anwar. The film follows Sancaka, a young man who grows up in a harsh environment and eventually discovers his extraordinary powers, becoming Gundala, a hero who stands against injustice and corruption.

Inspired by the classic Indonesian comic series created by Harya “Hasmi” Suraminata, Gundala blends action, social themes, and Indonesian storytelling traditions. The film represents a new wave of Indonesian cinema and the emergence of a shared superhero universe.

Through this screening, audiences will have the opportunity to explore Indonesian pop culture, storytelling, and contemporary film production while enjoying an exciting cinematic experience.
