La Salud Week of Cultural Resistance

Join La Salud in celebrating our annual Week of Cultural Resistance!!! (March 24th - March 27th)

Cultural Resistance is the practice of using cultural expressions like art, literature, and traditions to challenge dominant power structures, often in the face of oppression.

During this week, we are excited to collaborate with student organizations to offer events and workshops to attend and learn more about topics related to cultural resistance and celebrating the importance of cultural tradition and community. At the end of this week, we will conclude with a closing ceremony which will include a panel, folklorico performance, and dinner!

    Dr. Abdul El-Sayed

This event, featuring Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, will explore the impact of political shifts on public health and policy, with a particular focus on immigration and marginalized communities. As political climates change, so do policies related to healthcare access, environmental health, and social determinants of health, all of which disproportionately affect immigrant and minority populations.

Through a discussion led by Dr. El-Sayed, a public health expert and advocate, this event will examine the ways in which policy decisions shape health outcomes, access to care, and community well-being. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the intersection between politics and public health, as well as potential avenues for advocacy and reform. An iftar will be provided, fostering a space for community engagement and meaningful conversations during Ramadan. Additionally, we will host an interactive activity related to the panel discussion, allowing participants to engage with and apply the insights they've gained, further enriching the communal learning experience.
