Service Day 2019 View Other Sessions

The School of Public Health exists to help our neighbors near and far. Service Day puts that into practice with one mass day of volunteering on Saturday, April 13, 2019. Service Day connects the School of Public Health community - including students, alumni, faculty and staff - by promoting health and engaging the community. Groups and individuals will volunteer in their local communities while representing the School of Public Health. It is centered around a project that can help make a difference in your local community. Examples include volunteering at a food bank, painting a community center, and planting a community garden. Join us! Service Day provides students with an engaging and rewarding day, alums an opportunity to connect and build a Michigan community away from Ann Arbor, while faculty and staff support their local communities and connect outside of the office.



Wayne County Healthy Communities Health Fair

Volunteers will assist clinic staff in an Annual Health Fair via one of the following three activities: 1) educating community members on various health topics including diabetes management, stress management, cancer screenings, healthy habits, etc. Each volunteer will select a health topic and educate participants at a booth with handouts and/or PowerPoint presentation prepared by our clinic. If volunteers are interested in creating the PowerPoint themselves, they will have to complete the presentation 1 month prior to the event in order for clinic staff to review 2) working as ushers to greet participants, introduce the health fair and structure of the event, and provide surveys to gather demographic information & areas of health interest 3) distribute food and water to participants.

Volunteer activity is from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm -- Setup and training from 9:00-10:00 am, Health Fair from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. Please note: the 7:30 am-3:00 pm time listed above allows for travel time to and from the site).

Lunch and snacks provided by Wayne County Healthy Communities.

There will be a photographer at the event. All volunteers should fill out a Photo Consent Form prior to the event if they authorize the use of those photos by Wayne County Health Communities.
