Skill Swap Night is a low pressure, discussion based community building event where residents are invited to teach a short 2 to 5 minute lesson on any skill, hobby, or life hack they feel confident in. The goal is to create a structured but relaxed space where residents can connect with one another while also highlighting the strengths and talents already present within the hall.

The event will begin with a short welcome and explanation of the purpose. I will frame the program around the idea that everyone has something valuable to offer, whether it is academic, practical, creative, or simply a personal system that works for them. I will provide a few examples such as budgeting tips, study strategies, dorm cooking ideas, workout advice, time management systems, or even something fun like how to introduce yourself confidently. This helps lower anxiety and gives residents clear direction.

After the introduction, I will invite volunteers to share their skill. Each participant will have 2 to 5 minutes to teach or explain their topic, followed by 1 minute for questions. I plan to facilitate discussion gently to ensure transitions feel smooth and to encourage engagement from the audience. The total program will last approximately 30 to 40 minutes depending on participation.

To support the goals of social and intellectual well being, the structure allows residents to both teach and learn in an interactive way. Socially, residents engage with new peers in a collaborative environment rather than a purely social one, which can feel less intimidating. Intellectually, participants are exposed to new ideas, strategies, and perspectives shared by their peers. The experience is meant to feel supportive, empowering, and community oriented.

I want residents to leave feeling more connected to the people around them and more aware of the diverse strengths within their hall. Ideally, they walk away having learned at least one practical takeaway while also feeling more confident in their own abilities.
