BLI Engaged Leadership Sessions

Locations 

The overarching goals of these workshops are: (a) to provide an interdisciplinary perspective on engaged leadership; (b) to learn about the complex dimensions of being an engaged leader; (c) to provide a variety of tools to cultivate leadership skills. The workshops are developed by leading scholars in the field exclusively for the BLI mindful leadership program and open to BLI Leadership Fellows and other interested members of the U-M community.

Stephen Garcia

Negotiation & Leadership

Prof. Garcia is an eminent social psychologist and an eminent scholar with a research focus on negotiation, decision making, and social comparison. Prof. Garcia’s workshop on negotiation which will provide an overview of current research on negotiation. He will also discuss the implications of negotiation for mindful and engaged leadership. Ram Mahalingam

Ram Mahalingam received his PhD in Developmental Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. He is currently Professor of Psychology in the Personality and Social Contexts program at the University of Michigan. He is also a core faculty member of the Psychology and Women’s Studies Joint PhD program, and the Director for the Barger Leader Institute. He pursues three lines of research: (a) Dignity and Invisibility in workplace with a specific focus on janitors in India, US and South Korea; (b) Mindfulness, social justice and leadership with a specific focus on interconnectedness; (c) Relationship between cell phones and self. Zilka Joseph

Poetry and the Art of Engaged Living with Zilka Joseph

Zilka Joseph is an internationally known poet, author, and a passionate teacher. Her poems have appeared in major anthologies. She has conducted several poetry workshops for a variety of groups including students and executives. Her poetry workshop will focus on how to use poetry to creatively engage with our lives. Ashley Harrell

Leadership Development with Ashley Harrell

Prof. Harrell is a social psychologist and a core faculty member in the Organizational Studies Program. Her research focuses on providing structural and social psychological solutions for collective action. Specifically, she focuses on identifying specific social psychological factors that promote “good leadership” that promotes group cohesion, generosity, and cooperation. Prof. Harrell’s workshop will focus on the significance of current social psychological research for leadership development. Colleen Seifert

Psychology of Creativity with Colleen Seifert

Prof. Seifert is an Arthur Tharnau Professor of Psychology, a Cognitive Scientist with and an authority on psychological research on creativity. She has received several awards for her research and teaching. Prof. Seifert’s workshop will focus on the relevance of current research on creativity for mindful and engaged leadership.
