Mentors and mentees first participate in separate parallel sessions, where they reflect on their own goals, working styles, and approaches to common challenges. Faculty have two options during the parallel sessions. Option 1: Faculty who have never attended this workshop and/or faculty who have not attended this workshop in the last two academic years should register for Part I & II on a date that corresponds with the availability of their student mentee(s). Option 2: Faculty who have attended a Good Start workshop in the previous two academic years and would like to engage in deeper discussion on the Mentoring Across Difference material are invited to attend Mentoring Across Difference 2.0 during the parallel sessions. Afterwards, each student–faculty pair collaborates to create a written mentoring plan that outlines key elements such as needs, objectives, and mutual expectations. Mentoring pairs are encouraged to consider attending the optional one-on-one discussion time at the end of the workshop, where they have dedicated time to work together on developing the mentoring plan. Registration is required of both the faculty and the student. Mentoring pairs must attend the workshop on the same date.
