Finding it difficult to find motivation or schedule writing time in the summer, need a quiet place to work outside of your apartment, writing community and accountability writing partners? Join your RAs and fellow Northwood PhD residents for bi-weekly dissertation writing sessions at the Northwood Community Center. Bring your laptop and writing tools, and we'll bring pizza, soda, and fruit! 

Join us for an opportunity to tour and volunteer at the U-M Botanical Gardens, Campus Farms! The campus farm is a student-driven living learning lab that supports sustainable food systems. Northwood residents are welcome to join sessions June, July, and August, to learn more about the farm, volunteer by harvesting seasonal goodies, and explore other exciting opportunities for engagement. Please meet us at the Northwood Community Center. We will have lunch at the farm! We will arrange a vanpool to commute from the community center to the farm. Families and children of residents are invited to attend (please note in your registration if additional attendees will join you).

When volunteering, it is recommended that participants wear pants long-sleeve clothing, and closed-toed shoes.

The summer can be a challenging and lonely time for doctoral candidates working on their dissertation, because of the lack of structure and opportunities on campus. We are providing a reocurring opportunity and space for doctoral candidates: to make progress on their dissertations and other program milestones and to get out of isolated working spaces and build community among other doctoral students/candidates.

Join us for a vision board and goal setting workshop to set intentions and prepare for the upcoming semester and year! We will have refreshments and vision board planning materials available for you!

Join us for a friendly and fun-filled welcome event to kick off the new season in the neighborhood! Whether you're new to the area or just looking to meet more of your neighbors, this is a great chance to connect, ask questions, and learn about local resources and upcoming events.

Your RA Tasmine will be there to share helpful tips about living in the community, answer questions, and help you feel right at home.

Join fellow Northwood adults for a refreshing community-building evening walk! We’ll meet at the Northwood Community Center (NW CC) at 4:30 PM and head together on a scenic 2-hour roundtrip walk to Gallup Park.

Gallup Park is one of Ann Arbor’s most beautiful natural spaces, with riverside trails, bridges, and plenty of greenery. This is a perfect chance to get outdoors, enjoy conversation with neighbors, and take in the late-summer atmosphere. Together, we’ll aim to reach 10,000 steps—the recommended daily goal for health and wellness—while connecting as a community.

Take a break from research, papers, and deadlines—Connect with fellow graduate students over popcorn, and a great film. Whether you're here to unwind, socialize, or just enjoy a good movie, this is the perfect way to start off the school year.

It's the start of the new semester so what better way is there to start it than by getting to know your RA and your neighbors a little better with some over some coffee and pastries! Hope you can join!

A community-building event where students waiting at the bus stop come together to share breakfast (cheese quesadilla and oranges), enjoy friendly conversations, and start the day with a sense of connection and support.

Protect your ride and support campus safety! Join us for a Bike Registration Event hosted by the Division of Public Safety & Security. During this event, residents can register their bicycles (electronic devices, anything with a serial number) into the university’s secure database. Registration helps deter theft and increases the chances of recovering your bike if it's ever lost or stolen.

Campus Security officers will be on-site to assist with the quick and easy registration process. All you need is your bike, your MCard, and a few minutes of your time!

As we start the school year- whether you are feeding yourself or a family- getting out the door can be a challenge! Join us for some ideas for quick, nutrient-filled breakfast ideas! We will have some snacks/breakfast items available while supplies last.

Children are incredibly unpredictable! As a parent it can be extremely stressful to try to keep them safe, join us for tips on how to keep them safe.

Join us for a Northwood I/II community welcome picnic, the perfect chance to get to know your neighbors, Northwood I/II RAs, and one of the beautiful green spaces in Northwood. Food and drinks will be provided, and we'll have some outdoor games set up for everyone to enjoy. Feel free to bring your own outdoor games and activities to share with the group. Don't forget to bring a chair or blanket for comfortable seating!

Community Yoga for Northwood Adults

Take a mid-week pause to recharge and connect with your neighbors! Join other Northwood adults for a Community Yoga class at the Ann Arbor School of Yoga on Sunday, September 14 at 4:00 PM (Meet at NW CC)! This class offers a welcoming space to breathe, stretch, and restore while building community with fellow residents.

Join us during Hispanic Heritage Month for a beginner Latin dance lesson (no partner needed!)

Join us to celebrate a fruitful harvest from your at-home or community garden. This event is in collaboration with a fellow Northwood resident to celebrate summer and early Fall harvests and create a community space to exchange yields as the growing season begins to change. Enjoy a taco bar and bring any farm share items you would like to exchange or give away. This can also include any gardening tools or supplies, indoor plants, flowers, and herbs.
