Culture Under the Microscope Series

This series is designed for PhD students and emerging scientists to gather skill and knowledge in intercultural communication, fostering inclusive lab environments, recognizing our privilege and career & community pathway building. Ideally, participants will attend all of the series workshops to be best equipped to navigate the diversity of the scientific research space.

This interactive workshop helps international students and postdocs navigate career planning while strengthening connections within their academic community. Participants will explore strategies for identifying career opportunities both in the U.S. and internationally, understanding visa and immigration considerations, and building professional networks. The session also emphasizes engagement and peer support, highlighting how connecting with mentors, colleagues, and student groups enhances both career growth and a sense of belonging.


By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Develop a personalized roadmap for career planning 

  • Identify strategies to connect with mentors, peers, and professional networks to support career and personal growth

  • Reflect on how community engagement and collaborative networks contribute to resilience and success in academic environments
