Plan Barrier-Free Events

How do we create events that are welcoming to an array of participants, including those with disabilities? Barrier-free events are key to advancing LSA’s strategic priority to lead systemic change by confronting biases and barriers that impede full inclusion. LSA event planners can improve event experiences by applying best practices from the ideation stage through to event delivery.

Join the LSA Faculty and Staff Disability Navigators for an introductory course in creating barrier-free events.

Participants will:

  1. Learn to craft effective event communications to assist with a seamless and barrier-free experience for event participants.

  2. Understand considerations for selecting a venue and/or digital platform (for in-person, hybrid, and online formats).

  3. Obtain information to guide service provider selection (e.g., captioning, sign language interpreters, caterers).

  4. Get tips on how to provide event materials and present content in an accessible way.

  5. Receive resources including a barrier-free events reference guide and details about funding to assist with barrier-free event delivery at U-M.
