IOE Community Dialogue Series

The IOE Community Dialogue Series is a series of facilitated discussions between members of the IOE community that surround a speaker and topic. The intent is to hear and engage with diverse viewpoints, ideas, and experiences to understand differing perspectives or challenges some of our colleagues or students face while acknowledging the explicit and hidden structures that influence our community; especially as it pertains to the work we do. All members of the IOE community are welcome and invited to engage.

Each discussion should last about an hour, with an extra 15 minutes for additional discussion and socializing. Food will be provided.

If you have a specific topic or speaker you are passionate about and would like to facilitate a session, please contact us.

This dialogue will lie at the intersection of human factors and surgical team dynamics, focusing specifically on the unique challenges faced by pregnant team members. The discussion will delve into the physiological changes that occur during pregnancy and how these can influence performance in the operating room. Additionally, the dialogue will examine potential strategies for mitigating these challenges and consider how workplaces can adapt to better support this population, ultimately aiming to enhance both safety and efficiency in surgical environments.
