ACUM's DEI Book Club

ACUM's DEIAP Committee is hosting a four-week book club for faculty and staff. The meetings will occur virtually on Wednesdays from 12pm-1:00pm starting February 15th through March 8th. We will be reading various essays from the book Social Class Voices: Student Stories from UM's Bicentennial. This book is a collection of student essays written by undergraduate students at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Campus in 2017 about how social class shaped their experiences on campus. 

Each week we will require participants to come prepared having read approximately 15-20 pages prior to the meeting.  Participants are welcome to enjoy their lunch while attending as well. It is highly recommended that participants attend multiple sessions for consistency through the conversation, however, participants may choose to attend all 4 sessions or only some sessions; the collection of essays from the book will not be reviewed sequentially. 

This book is available for free through U-M Libraries at the following link: book can be found here. If you would prefer a physical copy of the book, you can purchase it on Amazon for $26.99. We encourage you to first see if you can use unit professional development funds to purchase the book. If you do not have funds available, please reach out to Rachel Watson at rewatson@umich.edu and ACUM is happy to purchase the book for a limited number of participants.
