Psychology Presents: Careers A to Z View Other Sessions

Join us for an interactive panel discussion of Psychology Dept Alumni as they present their career path and discuss how they've used their degree since graduating. Students will then be able to sign up for 15 minutes one-on-ones with individual alumni in Zoom breakout rooms after the panel. During the 1:1, you can ask more questions about their career path, tips and advice, and even feedback on your resume. 

  • Donna Neddo, Digital Content Producer

Donna Neddo has over ten years of experience in Social Media Marketing, Photography and Videography. She created the DONEDO brand by utilizing social media strategies and viral content while growing a loyal audience. With 200K subscribers and followers, she has been able to share her knowledge with major brands and small businesses to help them accomplish their goals. Her passion for creativity and art permeates everything she does.

Donna has landed coverage in print and broadcast outlets around the world, including TIME, ELLE France, Essence and HLN. She has worked with major brands including Toyota, Kraft-Heinz, JOICO, and HBO. In addition to her marketing experience, Donna is a public speaker who has given workshops in the US, France and South Africa. She is also an artist who has had some of her paintings sold as wallpaper designs.

Donna holds an MA in Art, Entertainment, and Media Management from Columbia College and a BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan.

  • Jessica Quilan, Director of Human Resources at Chicago Public Schools

Jessica is a Senior-level Human Resources professional with 15+ years of progressive management experience primarily working with luxury retailers, including Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and American Girl. During her tenure, she has supported companies in all aspects of HR including hiring, training, performance management, employee relations, strategic planning, restructuring, payroll, and benefits.

Jessica began her career in Human Resources as an entry-level HR Assistant at Saks Fifth Avenue where she learned the fundamentals of HR. Through hard-work and dedication throughout her career, Jessica was promoted and recruited into roles with greater responsibility ultimately leading her to be the Head of Human Resources for the retail division of American Girl/Mattel. After a short sabbatical, Jessica was recruited to Chicago Public Schools where she is currently leading the Human Resources function for all Central Office and City-Wide employees. 

Jessica received her BA, Psychology from the University of Michigan ’01 and her MA, Counseling Psychology from Boston College ‘04. Since her graduate studies, she received her PHR certification (Professional in Human Resources) and maintains certifications in continuing education courses such as Crucial Conversations, Predictive Index, and Situation Self Leadership.

  • David Galura, International development and global health professional

David has over 7 years of experience in domestic and global clinical health, program management, and program implementation experience. After graduating from the University of Michigan, he served as a Community Health Outreach Specialist with Peace Corps Mozambique. While there he collaborated with local officials to create and implement community based programs aimed to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS, increase adherence to anti-retrovirals, and decrease stigma surrounding HIV.

After returning from Mozambique, David joined Chemonics International where he provided technical, operational, and contractual management to the 5 year $23M USAID- funded Integrated Malaria Program (IMaP). IMaP contributed to reducing malaria mortality, morbidity, and parasitemia in four high malaria burden provinces in Mozambique.

After his time at Chemonics, David accepted a job with The Palladium Group supporting the 7 year, $222M USAID-funded Health Policy Plus (HP+) program. HP+ strengthens and advances health policy priorities in HIV, COVID, family planning and reproductive health, and maternal health across global, country, and sub-national levels.

David is currently a graduate student at Columbia University pursuing a degree in Health Policy and Management and has accepted a Summer Associate - Healthcare Consultant position with Deloitte this summer.

  • Matthew Poland, Founder and Principal of MAPS Advising

Matthew works to inspire education and workforce practitioners to fully engage in the future of work, and he supports their efforts to deepen their relationships with businesses and solve complex program design challenges. He is the Founder and Principal of MAP Advising, a consultancy focused on preparing organizations for the future of work. He has most recently worked on projects with Jobs for the Future (JFF) and Pathways Consultants, where he provided technical assistance to schools, colleges, workforce development and government agencies on the topics above. Prior to JFF, he managed a work-based learning intermediary for youth at the United Way of the Bay Area in San Francisco. He holds a master’s in public administration from San Francisco State University and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan.
