2017-2018 Learning in Community Workshop Series

Learning in Community (LinC) is an educational workshop and training series focused on supporting students who are interested in community engagement, social justice, democratic engagement, advocacy, activism and philanthropy. Sessions address one or more of the following areas:

*Alternative Breaks (AB): Students will gain the knowledge and skills to plan and execute a meaningful alternative break experience for group members.

*Democratic Engagement (DE): Students will engage in dialogue around pressing social and political issues. Students will learn how to engage across difference and examine ways to create change through the democratic process.

*Leadership Development (LD):Students will focus on expanding the knowledge and skills necessary in creating positive change.

*Reciprocal Community Partnerships (RP): Students will explore key principles of engagement and how to address challenges of creating mutually beneficial and socially just partnerships.

Each year, hundreds of UM students work with K-12 youth through student organization initiatives, University programs, outreach, and volunteering. Join the Center for Educational Outreach and the Ginsberg Center for a training for all students interested in developing skills to better work with youth through engagement and service. This workshop will provide resources for you to use in order to prepare for your community engagement experience with youth.
