Overview and Timing: Volunteers will meet at the School of Public Health (Room 2690 SPH I) for lunch (provided by the School of Public Health) and a brief training session at 11:15 am before traveling to nearby neighborhoods on campus to participate in the Adopt-a-Stormdrain Project, which will include posting signage to educate the community that anything that goes down the stormdrain goes directly to the Huron River – without any treatment. Students will return to the School of Public Health and be done with this service project by roughly 2:30 pm.
Dress code: Volunteers should dress to be outdoors. Closed-toe shoes are required and it is recommended to wear layers. Clothes should be able to get dirty, and we recommend removing or not bringing jewelry. It is recommended that volunteers leave purses, bags, and any valuables at home or in their vehicle. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own water.
Family: To register any family members who are interested in joining you at your Service Day site, please email Whitney Vojtkofsky (whitdix@umich.edu).
School of Public Health Alumni: If you are interested in participating in Service Day this year, we would love to have you join us! If you have an active ‘@umich’ email address, you can register using that email. If you do not, please email Whitney Vojtkofsky (whitdix@umich.edu) with the name of the site where you would like to volunteer, as well as any dietary restrictions or allergies you’d like us to be aware of.
*Please note: In case of inclement weather that would require the School of Public Health to cancel the Huron River Watershed Council Adopt-a-Stormdrain Project, volunteers may choose to participate in Service Day by volunteering at the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. Transportation can be provided by the School of Public Health if needed. Volunteers will be notified via email the week of Service Day in the case of inclement weather in the forecast.
