In this introductory meeting, we will discuss the concept of the "Persianate" and its relevance to academic work in the disciplines represented by participants. This discussion will be anchored by two readings—the introduction and ch. 4 of Mana Kia's Persianate Selves, and the introduction to Nile Green's The Persianate World.
