This workshop provides professors new to the University of Michigan with an opportunity to discuss what it means to exemplify the values, privileges, and responsibilities as Rackham graduate faculty with colleagues from across the university. This session also includes a workshop on mentoring doctoral students which will be facilitated by MORE (Mentoring Others Results in Excellence), a Rackham committee that engages with faculty and graduate students to foster conversations about mentoring. MORE’s workshop is designed to raise awareness of the research on best practices in mentoring and tools that can facilitate mentoring relationships for new assistant professors.
Audience: Assistant, associate, and full professors new to the University of Michigan. The MORE workshop is most relevant for faculty who are new assistant professors. Professors new to U-M (associate and full professors) are welcome to join the discussion during this portion of the event as well.
MORE Workshop Topics: You will learn from experienced colleagues about effective mentoring, understand how a written mentoring plan can help create a two-way conversation between mentor and mentee, and exchange ideas about handling challenging mentoring situations.
