Dr. Anna Elena Torres, Professor of Comparative Literature at the University of Chicago, will be speaking about her current book project, A Bear Flew By: Animality in Yiddish Literature, which advances new readings of animality, disability, gender, and racialization within Ashkenazi literature, folk song, and visual art.
Dr. Torres is a scholar of Comparative Literature specializing in Jewish Studies. Her research interests include Yiddish Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies, Anarchism and Labor History, Disability, Diaspora Studies, Religion, Indigenous Studies, and Translation.
