This workshop will highlight some of the action items for good tutoring and mentoring as complementary activities for enhancing academic and social success gleaned from Dr. Rowley's own teaching, research, and the burgeoning scholarly literature in the social sciences on mentoring. Special emphasis will be given to the implications for students from underrepresented racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.

In this workshop, we will be using both hypothetical scenarios as well as tutors' own experiences to talk about different strategies to handle difficult situations. This is an interactive workshop that will allow tutors to learn from each other and share ideas surrounding this topic.

This session will provide tutors with information to improve their support of students with disabilities. Tutors will come away with a much better understanding of the students with disabilities population, including important do's and don'ts and strategies for success.
