The Munger Leadership Team is excited to be hosting a number of campus units on the 8th floor in an effort to raise awareness about resources and opportunities that support the graduate and professional student population for the upcoming year. Stop by to have your questions answered!

As a graduate student or postdoctoral scholar, you have likely already engaged in a number of difficult conversations throughout your life. Perhaps some of them went well, and others did not go as well as you had hoped. What distinguished these conversations from one another? In this interactive session, Rackham experts in conflict resolution will discuss how to navigate difficult conversations. You will leave with concrete strategies for productive dialogue and clear communication, able to approach difficult conversations with more confidence in the future.

Come to the Fun Home! Enjoy this musical based on Alison Bechdel's Graphic Memoir about Bechdel's discovery of her own sexuality, her relationship with her gay father, and her attempts to unlock the mysteries surrounding his life. Tickets and transportation will be provided. We will also be providing copies of the graphic memoir to compare and talk about the themes in a discussion after the performance in the Fellows Lounge over dinner. 

Join us for an afternoon of painting - we will supply a blank canvas, paint, and paintbrushes - you bring the talent! We will be painting something (TBD!) that would be a good decoration for your room!

Kick off event for the  the Munger Affinity Associations!

Membership in Munger Affinity Associations (MAAs) is voluntary and open to any Munger resident or guest, and a member’s identity does not need to align with the identity of the MAA. Membership will provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and information. It will be a safe space and source of co-curricular education, connectivity to the University of Michigan, and/or leadership for professional development and will provide mutual support amongst members. Michigan Business Women in collaboration with Munger Graduate Residences presents International Women Connect. Between adjusting as a woman in a different country, learning how to make friends, understanding the gender dynamics in a different culture and finding your own tribe, there are a number of challenges that we face first as women and then as international students.

Join us as we share our candid stories about navigating graduate school as an international woman, make some friends from other schools and provide thoughts on how we can support one another!

Come with an empty stomach, refreshments will be provided.

Garden of the Word is a beautiful and emotionally charged anime short film. The story is about a 15-year old high school who meets a 27-year old teacher. Their experiences shared allow for reflection on life. Come watch the beautifully crafted short film, eat some snacks and share your thoughts!

Calling all Grey's Anatomy fans! (Grey's Anatomy is on its 16th season and is a medical drama show). Join us as Grey's Anatomy restarts for the winter - come ready for drama and let's enjoy the show together! 

Wondering how to live your best life in Grad School on a budget? Our financial expert, Mark Munzenberger, from the University of Michigan Credit Union will join us on Jan.30 from 5.00-6.00pm to talk about budgeting effectively on a grad student's salary.  You will leave this session with simple and practical financial hacks for grad school living and adulting. Dinner and handouts will be provided! 

Each year, Munger Graduate Residences challenges transdisciplinary teams of graduate students to address important topics through its Case Competition. The Winter 2020 Munger Case Competition is brought to you in partnership with CAPS and Wolverine Wellness. Join us on the 8th floor from 5:30-7:00pm at this special event to learn about the action plans graduate and professional student teams have created in an effort to address campus wellness. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be provided!

We're going to get creative while doing community service! Kids' Food Basket is an organization in Western Michigan dedicated to providing sack suppers to children near or below the poverty line. They collect decorated brown paper lunch bags so that the kids get fun designs/uplifting messages with their dinners. We will supply the crafting supplies, paper bags, and lunch for participants. All you have to do is take a break from studying and come stop on by!

Calling all movie lovers! Join us in the Media Room to watch the Oscars on Feb 9, have some snacks, and admire celeb's outfits. Come early to fill out a ballot of your predictions for winners, there will be a prize for the winner with the most correct answers.

Come celebrate Valentine's Day with us - decorate your own cupcakes or cookies, and potentially meet your valentine!

Do you vote outside of Ann Arbor but can't make it back for your upcoming election? Do you want to avoid standing in lines on election day? If so, stop by the Munger lobby to learn about how to vote absentee in your state! Pick up some snacks and information about the absentee voting process. Michigan absentee voting applications will be available as well as other helpful information.

Stressed, lonely, bored, or looking for something new to do? Join Munger residents for a virtual group meditation session including a body scan. Body scan meditation is a good way to release tension you might not even realize you're experiencing. Body scanning involves paying attention to parts of the body and bodily sensations in a gradual sequence from feet to head. During this stressful time, this workshop is a great way to take control of your personal health and well. 

A link to join will be sent out to all who register the day of the event.

Welcome to Munger's "The Circle" Competition, based on Netflix's show The Circle. 

If you want some background on The Circle, the twist is that the players never meet face-to-face during the competition, as each one lives in his or her own apartment. The contestants communicate exclusively through profiles created on a specially designed social media app. This anonymity allows them to hide their true identities and portray themselves however they choose. Throughout the competition, the players rate one another, with the lowest-rated players put at risk of being eliminated, or blocked, from the game. The contestant who survives the contest and emerges the winner takes home the grand prize.

Our game will be set up in a similar manner, however we will be sending out official rules and sign-up form on April 20 to everyone who registers using this sessions link. The game will run for a few weeks, and there are multiple opportunities to win prizes. We have fun games planned, so bring your A-game and we hope to see you in The Circle!
