Readers & Best Winter 2019

Readers & Best was created in the Summer of 2014 as a joint collaboration between the Ginsberg Center’s Literacy Initiatives and the Athletic Department’s Let’s Go Do program. The goal was to provide opportunities for students across campus to come together to support reading in local schools through one-time visits. We provide the monthly curriculum for each visit, which includes a book and activity specific to the grade level of the classroom. The general Readers & Best visit requires a 2.5 hour time block from student volunteers. This includes the brief orientation, travel and the time at the school. Typically, we offer 10 slots for schools participating in the Readers and Best curriculum. The visit is led by a site leader and up to 6 additional students (since we can fit 7 people in a van). Volunteers are at the school for an hour and a half, so each volunteer reads to 2 classrooms for 30 minutes each. The Ginsberg Center provides transportation to and from the schools.
