This month's theme dovetails with the theme of the MLK Symposium. Please bring 3-5 photos (printed or on your phone) that reflect one or both facets of the theme: "unbowed" and "unbroken." Please arrive on time and plan to remain until the end of the session.

Unbowed:  The Posture of the Soul

Unbowed speaks to the posture of the soul that stands tall, refusing to exist as anything less than the fullness of humanity to which we all are entitled. It is the audacity to face the entire landscape of oppression, not in resignation, but in defiant hope, believing in the possibility of change:
"The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice."

We may entertain compromise, but never capitulation.

Unbroken:  Strength Through Struggle

Unbroken signals the relentless strength forged in the fire of adversity. It remembers the oppressive history and the battle-worn yet steadfast fighters for freedom who have persisted through storm and strife and who have passed the torch forward. The vision remains undimmed, the purpose undeterred by the discriminatory tactics of yesteryear or the fresh injustices of today.  The posture of strength is reinforced by faith in the necessity of a just outcome.

The Raoul Wallenberg Institute is hosting its first Photovoice dinner for students on Thursday, September 25th, at 6pm in Pierpont Commons. The theme of the September 25th dinner is "hope," and we especially invite those involved with campus religious and spiritual groups to attend. A facilitator will guide your table through the process of sharing, asking questions, and understanding everyone's experiences. Students can RSVP for the September 25th dinner using the pre-registration link listed.

In preparation for the dinner, please choose three of your own photographs (or take three new photographs) that you would be willing to share with others in response to the following prompt: "Hope can be felt, longed for, aspired to, practiced. What does hope look like for you now?"

Additional student dinners will be held on the fourth Thursday of each month at rotating locations. The theme of each dialogue will be different, but the meal will always be vegetarian. Receive more information about future monthly topics by filling out the interest form included.

What bridges to  belonging do you encounter in your daily life? And what barriers do you experience in your community? A bridge is something that enables you to flourish, whereas a barrier keeps you from flourishing. Snap 2-3 photos of each (4-6 total) and come to our session ready to share the stories behind them.
