Dr. Marcelle Haddix / Dr. April Baker-Bell

Please join Dean Marcelle Haddix for a restorative yoga and meditation event centering graduate student women and femmes of color.

The visiting scholar leading this event is Dean Haddix who is the Dean and Karen A. Falk Distinguished Chair of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Throughout her career, Dean Haddix’s scholarship has had a commitment to centering and celebrating the lived experiences of Black girls and women of color. Dr. Haddix also has professional yoga training experience as the founder of ZenG Yoga.

Led by Dean Haddix, “Reclaiming Space” will have two parts:

1) Guided yoga and meditation experience - emphasis on engaging in restorative and wellness practices as women of color in the academy (45 minutes)

2) Debrief/discussion after yoga session - advice from Dr. Haddix, students sharing thoughts on the yoga/meditation activity, etc. (15 minutes)

As ZenG, Dean Haddix has workshops with similar objectives called “Sistacircles” that Dr. Haddix may feel free to incorporate in “Reclaiming Space.”

Attendees must bring their own yoga mats (we will not be providing any unfortunately)! We also recommend bringing a water bottle, a notebook, and something to write with.
