An Introduction to FERPA for UMSI Faculty, Staff, and GSIs
An Introduction to FERPA for UMSI Faculty, Staff, and GSIs (Hybrid)
The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is the federal law that governs release of and access to student educational records and gives current and former students the right to inspect, review, and challenge the content of their own education records. In compliance with FERPA, the University of Michigan maintains a student record policy which outlines student rights pertaining to their educational records. This session will help staff and instructors understand which student records fall within the purview of FERPA, which are excluded from FERPA, and will share best practices for working with student records in a FERPA-compliant way.
It is highly recommended (though not required) that participants complete the RO100 FERPA at U-M training within My LINC, before bringing your questions or practical scenarios to this session.
