Puentes 2022 - 2023

The mission of Puentes is to create an equitable space that centers the intersectional identities of incoming and current Latinx graduate students across schools, departments, and disciplines at U-M. We strive to foster a space of community, healing, and empowerment, where students feel supported and equipped to advocate for their needs and the needs of their community during and beyond their academic tenure at U-M.

2023 Latinx Research Week Conference

Latinx Research Week (LRW) is a conference that celebrates the scholarship of Latinx students, researchers, and faculty at U-M, and uplifts research relevant to Latinx communities. LRW provides a unique, interdisciplinary space where scholars across campus can share their research and build new connections. From March 13 to March 16, 2023, researchers will be able to showcase their work in oral presentation sessions, a poster session, and various sponsored events. Puentes will award cash prizes to the top oral and poster presentations for graduate and undergraduate students. Additionally, LRW will feature a keynote address and faculty roundtable.

Food and refreshments will be provided during all LRW sessions.

This evening event will be a space of celebration, acknowledging the impact of Latinx scholarship and research relevant to Latinx populations and building anticipation of the upcoming sessions. There will be a DJ, buffet, and a photographer offering professional headshots. We are also hosting a keynote speaker from Excelencia in Education to address our convening body regarding our theme Floreciendo Juntos, Flourishing Together. The event will conclude with interdisciplinary networking and dancing.

Puentes is hosting an interdisciplinary poster session where attendees can browse the array of research on display. Heavy appetizers and refreshments are provided.

The poster session will rotate presenters halfway through resulting in one group presenting from 4:30-5:30pm and another group presenting 6:00-7:00pm. We encourage attendees to drop in for both of these sessions to examine the full breadth of research on display.
