The University of Michigan School of Public Health Public Health Practice & Global Engagement team has organized a series of events over two days to bring our Grenadian partners to campus for a reciprocal, practice-oriented exchange. This is in collaboration with the Public Health Action Support Team, Region V Public Health Training Center,  School of Information Engaged Learning Office,  LSA Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies,  School of Nursing Office of Global Affairs,  Center for Global Health Equity, and Office of the Provost Global Engagement Team.

The University of Michigan School of Public Health Public Health Practice & Global Engagement team has organized a series of events over two days to bring our Grenadian partners to campus for a reciprocal, practice-oriented exchange. This is in collaboration with the Public Health Action Support Team, Region V Public Health Training Center, School of Information Engaged Learning Office, LSA Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, School of Nursing Office of Global Affairs, Center for Global Health Equity, and Office of the Provost Global Engagement Team.


This is an opportunity to participate in a robust discussion and build out Ideas related to these core themes. Faculty, post-docs, staff, community partners and doctoral students from across campus are encouraged to attend.

Topic - Climate Resilience in Practice

  • Discuss the climate resilience priorities and challenges identified by Grenadian partners.
  • Share experiences related to community preparedness, risk communication, climate adaptation, and recovery.
  • Explore how local knowledge, community experience, and data can inform planning and decision-making.
  • Consider strategies for strengthening infrastructure, essential services, and support for communities most affected by climate risks.
  • Identify promising practices, partnerships, and questions for continued Grenada–U‑M learning and collaboration.

  • Discuss mental well-being, substance-use prevention, and resilience priorities identified by Grenadian partners.

  • Examine local risk and protective factors affecting individuals, families, and communities.

  • Explore culturally responsive approaches to prevention, early support, stigma reduction, and community education.

  • Consider how schools, families, health services, faith communities, youth organizations, and other community partners can work together.

  • Identify promising strategies and opportunities for continued learning, partnership, and locally led action.

  • Identify physical, digital, communication, institutional, and attitudinal barriers to participation.
  • Explore the application of universal design and inclusive planning principles within a Caribbean context.
  • Consider how people with disabilities and their representative organizations can meaningfully shape programs, services, policies, and preparedness plans.
  • Identify practical opportunities, partnerships, and areas for continued Grenada–U‑M learning and collaboration.

Partnership in Action: The Grenada–Ann Arbor Exchange Student Innovation Challenge

The Student Innovation Challenge is an opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students from diverse backgrounds to collaborate on developing innovative solutions to challenges faced by our Grenadian partners. The challenge will be distributed a week prior to the event date for students to begin working on their proposed solution. Students from any school or college are welcome to participate in the challenge and staff, faculty or students who are not participating are welcome to view the challenge in person or remotely.

The Student Innovation Challenge is an opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students from diverse backgrounds to collaborate on developing innovative solutions to challenges faced by our Grenadian partners. Students from any school or college are welcome to participate.



A few things to note:

  • Teams will be randomly assigned to be interdisciplinary. 
  • The winning team for this group challenge will have the opportunity to represent the University of Michigan at a regional Global Health Case Competition hosted by the University of Notre Dame in partnership with Northwestern University and the University of Michigan School of Public Health. Select travel expenses will be covered.
