Urban Studies Workshop

The Rackham Interdisciplinary Workshop on Urban Studies takes an expansive view of urbanism, one that reaches across both geography and history while cutting across conventional distinctions like city and suburb. We welcome all scholars and practitioners who interrogate the significance of the urban in their work to join in the life of this workshop, from politics and planning, to art and literature, to science and engineering, and more.

Detroit, Michigan

The Saturday after fall break (October 24th), we plan to explore the urban scene in our local metropolitan area. We will be taking the D2A2 bus together into the city, and then spending some time exploring downtown, riding the People Mover (elevated rail), and walking the Dequindre Cut Greenway and the Eastern Market area before returning to Ann Arbor by bus. Lunch will be provided.
