SOUTH QUAD / FLETCHER 2025-2026

Seeing as it is Midterm Season, RAs Lauren Wells & Vrea Sivrieva hope to give residents the chance to destress and have fun with their peers. Residents will play the social deduction game, Blood on the Clocktower, while enjoying a catered meal. We want residents to build relationships, and take part in a mentally stimulating activity in a low-pressure environment.

RA Praneet Voleti is planning to host mystery events that allow students to communicate with each other and get to know each other on a deeper level. We will help set up and allow each student to collaborate and communicate with each other. The event would run for 2 hours, and we hope that residents feel a sense of belonging and feel welcome by connecting with the other residents.

RAs Jessica Tran and Urvi Parihar will host the Spooky Coloring event is designed to offer residents a calm and creative space to unwind, connect, and celebrate the Halloween season together. Hosted in the Yuri Lounge, the event will feature a variety of Halloween-themed coloring pages, crayons, markers, and colored pencils for residents to use at their leisure. The lounge will play soft, lo-fi or seasonal music in the background to create a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Throughout the event, the RAs will mingle with participants, fostering casual conversations and helping to build a sense of community among residents. 

Residents will be able to have a coffee-chat style workshop with their RAs Joshua Sheng & Peter Schoenherr, and gain insight into career options, the internship recruiting process, and general advice on classwork. We want to give guidance to students in a setting that mimics coffee-chats with future recruiters or professionals. The goal is for all students to walk away with a clear action plan on how they will tackle the next steps towards their career goals.

RAs Through this event we hope to strengthen our floor communities by giving residents the opportunity to share a meal with their neighbors and resident advisors. We plan on meeting residents in the SQ lobby before and then eating a meal together at the dining hall. We want residents to enjoy the event and take time to relax and refuel. As the semester gets busier and busier, it is important to remind residents to eat and nourish their bodies. 

RAs Brendan Lafrenier & Ian Hoereth and the residents will be able to use their devices and create a vision board. I want people to be able to set goals for the end of the semester and have the ability to carry it around with them at any point, that's why we use canva. The event would start with just easy explanation of the event and residents can stay for as long as they want. 

RAs, will begin setup around 3:30PM in the basement lounge of South Quad. Materials will be placed out for quick and easy access for residents. Around 4PM setup will conclude, and we will signal to residents that they are free to participate in our event. Throughout the next 2 hours, students will stop by, engage with the quick activities, and text friends to come to the basement. Residents will be pleased with the free candy and other take home items, and we will wrap up around 6ish unless materials run out or demand for the event is constant past 6.

RSC Jonathan Holland and Trad RA Destiny Adedayo will host a Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt for residents living on 7th Thronson to celebrate the season and have some fun together! Participants will search for hidden candy around the game room, following clues and competing to see who can find the most treats. All residents of the 7th Thronson community are encouraged to join in for an evening of laughter, teamwork, and sweet rewards!

RAs will provide tips for choosing fresh produce, budgeting for healthy meals, and supporting local vendors. This event is low-maintenance: residents can explore the market at their own pace, chat with RAs, and sample small items if they like. The main focus is community-building, learning practical skills for shopping, and encouraging independence in food choices.

Jessica Tran & Urvi Parihar will meet at the SQ Game Room with residents. We will have an open dialogue about how residents have been experiencing their first semester at UM. The goal is to have residents feel comfortable and share their experiences with others. It will connect residents as they will meet and talk with others who are going through the same thing as them. We will provide donuts at the end of the discussion as a fun way to end the event and promote participation. 

RA Michelle Xiao will meet at the South Quad Community Center at 7:30 PM on November 14th. Then, we will walk to the UMMA together to attend the Penny Stamps Speaker Series for the night. During the walk, there will be a few simple icebreaker activities to initiate connections. I am also hoping residents get a chance to connect with the panelists if they desire, but if not, they are still connecting with the larger community in a broader sense, both socially and intellectually. Residents will then have the opportunity to walk back to the dorms together. We are definitely not experts in this field, and discomfort may arise from the topics that will be discussed. Something that I want them to take away is that feeling discomfort is not necessarily something to be avoided, but something to learn from and something that can drive change. I hope that having them attend the event together with their peers makes such events an easier transition.

Together the group will travel to the State Theater, engaging in conversation on the way. From there, the collective will watch the movie and then head back to South Quad after it ends. Residents will get to engage in a fun experience with friends before the Thanksgiving holiday.
