RA Michelle Xiao will meet at the South Quad Community Center at 7:30 PM on November 14th. Then, we will walk to the UMMA together to attend the Penny Stamps Speaker Series for the night. During the walk, there will be a few simple icebreaker activities to initiate connections. I am also hoping residents get a chance to connect with the panelists if they desire, but if not, they are still connecting with the larger community in a broader sense, both socially and intellectually. Residents will then have the opportunity to walk back to the dorms together. We are definitely not experts in this field, and discomfort may arise from the topics that will be discussed. Something that I want them to take away is that feeling discomfort is not necessarily something to be avoided, but something to learn from and something that can drive change. I hope that having them attend the event together with their peers makes such events an easier transition.

We will start in the South Quad Game Room. After taking attendance, I will set some community guidelines to ensure that everyone feels welcome and boundaries are respected. If allowed, I hope to have students sort of lead the way for this event, depending on what they are interested in. Students will then have the opportunity to perform, present, or just listen (whatever they are comfortable with). This event will also hopefully give them an opportunity to discover some new ways to guide the different types of wellness into their lives. Coming from a very diverse community, students share various experiences and identities. Music is a form of expression that can allow students to both share their identities and be open-minded to what others come into this community with. After the event ends, I will ensure that everything is cleaned up and returned.

Thet Nwe Thar

RA Thet Nwe Thar Residents will meet in the lobby of our residence hall at 1 pm and walk together to Ann Arbor Artoberfest, located in the Kerrytown area (about 10–15 minutes away). Upon arrival, residents will be free to browse the art festival, which features 90 jury-selected artists, live entertainment, food vendors, and hands-on art activities. I will provide a festival map and list of recommended booths and food spots to encourage exploration.

We will regroup at a central location (such as The Gutman Gallery) halfway at 2:45 pm through the event to check in and take group photos, then allow residents to continue exploring. We will walk back together to campus afterward, giving residents a chance to reflect and share their favorite parts of the festival. Overall, the experience will be casual, social, and community-building to help residents bond with each other while discovering local culture in a low-stress, fun way.
