We will be meeting in front of the Community Center and walk together to the Arb. The RA’s will be bringing a soccer ball, volley ball, and frisbee for physical wellness activities; or if residents want to stay more observant of the surrounding environment, they can paint with painting supplies that we will be bringing with us, appreciating the beauty of nature in the Arb while getting to know other community members.

This workshop provides residents with practical guidance on creating and improving resumes tailored to STEM fields. The session will begin with a short overview of resume essentials, including formatting tips, common mistakes to avoid, and strategies for highlighting technical and transferable skills. Examples of strong STEM resumes will be shared to give residents a clear model of what employers and graduate programs are looking for. After the overview, residents will have dedicated time to work on their own resumes. They can either start building from scratch or polish an existing draft. Peer-to-peer feedback will be encouraged in small groups, allowing residents to learn from one another and strengthen their communication skills. The program will close with a short Q&A to address specific questions and provide resources for further resume development.

We will meet at 4pm in the Jo Lounge and walk to the UMMA. Once at the UMMA, we will have a guided tour of exhibits like Come Talk to Me (intersection of race and sexuality), Unsettling Histories (Impact of Racism on Achievement), A Gathering (art is a reflection of societal changes), and Curriculum / Collection(our impact on society, interdisciplinary work).

Residents will be invited to an evening of creativity and collaboration centered around their research passions. At the start of the event, materials such as paper, glue, markers, and recycled magazines will be provided, with a brief introduction on how the activity connects to responsible stewardship by reusing and sharing resources. Each student will create a one-page collage reflecting either their personal research interest or an issue they care deeply about, blending words, images, and drawings to capture their vision. By the end, residents will leave having contributed to something larger than themselves while also celebrating their own passions.

Join RA Aspen in the Jo Living Room before taking the bus to Mitchell field to play some sand volleyball before the weather turns cold!

During this event, residents will have a chance to make fun origami while talking to each other and listening to music.

Residents will be invited to paint their own plant pot and plant a succulent in it. This hands-on, creative activity provides stress relief, encourages mindfulness, and helps students express themselves artistically. Succulents are low-maintenance plants that promote sustainability and add a touch of greenery to living spaces, which can positively impact mental health. 

While watching the movie The Lorax, we will be upcycling clothes to prevent fast fashion waste. In this way, we will be learning more about environmentalism while also practicing it. 

We will host a football watch party for the Michigan v Nebraska away game. The game will start at 3:30 PM, prior to which we will get the catered food from the dining hall. Residents will converse among themselves during the game, and meet people from around the dorm.

Residents will be invited to a relaxed, creative evening where they will first reflect on their “STEM origin story” — how they became interested in STEM and what role their identities have played in shaping that journey. They will then transition into creating personalized STEM vision boards, using magazines, printouts, and craft materials to represent their goals, dreams, and identities within STEM. The program will close with an optional sharing circle, where residents can present aspects of their vision boards or origin stories, allowing peers to celebrate and connect over shared experiences.

Join RSC Maya for an event focused on making vision boards as a fun way to express yourself creatively and reflect on what we want to experience in the upcoming year. 

During this event, residents will have the opportunity to practice mindfulness in the midst of exam season, while making and enjoying a root beer (or other pop) float. In groups they will talk about how they are managing stress and spend time doing a goal setting activity with sticky notes individually, with their table, and as a full group. 

Residents will arrive and have the option to engage in activities. (bracelet making, photo booth, coloring pages, they'll have a piece of paper with a taylor song/album on it taped to their backs and have to figure out which one they are by asking yes/no questions, etc). Once the album drops, the group will have a listening party!

The goal of this event is to create a space for residence to enjoy each others company while discussing the importance of healthy eating. The event will utilize Michigan resources surrounding healthy eating to provide talking points for residents as they talk and eat in small groups.

Students will meet by dining hall stairs a 6:45pm and join RA David to head down to Michigan Theater promptly after (should be no more than a 15 minute walk). The orchestra starts at 7:00 and has free admission.

At the start of the event, there will be a brief presentation about Diwali. After that, residents will be able to relax and paint diyas while listening to music. Food will be provided.
