Student Life Professional Development: Winter 2024

Join SLPD for sessions aimed at enhancing and developing your Marketing and Communication plan, learning about different aspects of wellbeing, and developing leadership skills. Attendees can participate in an array of sessions. These sessions are open to Student Life staff and our academic colleagues, and serve to support Student Life's 3 Year Strategic Plan.

Sessions are free unless staff register and fail to attend, or "no-show" to a session, then a $25 charge will be applied. At least 24 hour notice is needed to avoid your Unit being charged. You will be asked to provide a Unit shortcode when you complete registration.

Website copy offers the opportunity to share your story with a dedicated audience, so how can you make sure they are hearing your message? The Writing For the Web workshop is here to provide the knowledge and to make your website copy as engaging as possible.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • Identifying tone of voice dimensions for your website
  • Best practice of writing for the web
  • Tips and tricks for reviewing existing pages 

You will also receive a toolkit that includes checklists and useful tools.

Have you ever had to create a flier or sign and found yourself unsure how to start? Maybe you have put together a design and something just felt off? The Basics of Graphic Design workshop can help you get started or figure out why your design seems off! This workshop is designed for anyone from beginners with no experience to seasoned professionals looking for a refresher.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • Some basic terminology and concepts of graphic design
  • A basic overview of Typography
  • An introduction to composition

You will also receive a toolkit that includes checklists and useful tools.

Have you taken the MBTI before, but never had a conversation about your results? Or, have you been curious about this assessment, but haven't been able to take it yet? Join Student Life Professional Development for an opportunity to decode your own MBTI results!

The MBTI (or Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) is a self-report assessment composed of questions that explain how people perceive the world and make decisions. The MBTI can help inform how you work with students and colleagues, perform your work, and outline hidden talents and strengths to help you excel in your office. 

By registering for this opportunity, you agree to complete the assessment and attend the onsite workshop on April 17. Failure to attend the workshop will result In a $25 charged to your unit shortcode. Registration deadline is April 12!
