Sessions For: Organizational Excellence

Empowering Blue (EB) is a community for staff and faculty to connect, collaborate and learn together about improvement, change and innovation. Facilitated by Organizational Excellence, EB participants will meet other like minded people to spark new ideas, share best practices for continuous improvement and empower each other.

Our mission is to support and encourage those who are transforming the way we do business for the benefit of its students, staff, faculty, alumni and community. Topics will include continuous improvement, Lean, change management, trends and technology, engagement, process improvement and more!

2 sessions available from April 2, 2021 to June 4, 2021
Our Foundations course will introduce to you the concepts that support successful improvement efforts. We demonstrate the importance of understanding the cause of a problem, the danger of assumptions and how to focus your efforts identifying the factors that will help you drive real change.

We use a mix of real life examples, small group work and discussion to illustrate how these concepts translate into our day to day lives. Attendees are asked to bring with them a process from their work that they think could be improved. Throughout the session, attendees will be reflecting on the process to better understand how these improvement concepts can be applied to their own work.
You will leave with:
Ability to define value and describe it from your customer's perspective.Understanding of the 8 kinds of waste and practice spotting them in action.
Insight into the importance of investigating issues at the source and using open-ended questions to elicit better information.
Awareness of the Plan-Do-Check-Adjust cycle, a proven problem-solving methodology.
Understanding of how Organizational Excellence can provide support to you and your team.Session length: 3 hours

The Lean in Daily Work (LIDW) in a Nutshell course is designed for new and existing members of any campus team utilizing LIDW. This 2 hour training will provide insight into the five pillars of LIDW and provide participants the chance to reflect with and learn from other users of LIDW. This training covers Lean in Daily Work for campus users, it is not intended for Michigan Medicine LIDW teams.

Participants should be a member of a campus team utilizing LIDW.

Deliver more value and less waste to your stakeholders and sponsors by using a customer focused mindset. This course is designed for project managers and those in positions to oversee projects in any capacity.

You will leave with:

An understanding of the importance of value to the customers of your project.
How to predict, mitigate, and communicate the impact of the project to stakeholders.
How to react quickly to the unexpected and help those you are working with adapt to changes.
How to help your sponsors focus on continuous improvement over perfection.
