Talk on Indigenous Workshop Report by Suanmuanlian Tonsing
With growing concern over the politics of educational curriculum in India that denies Indigenous tribes the scholarly tools to document their own histories, Zo Academia, in collaboration with Rayburn College, organized an Indigenous ethnography workshop. The workshop was held in December 2023 amidst the alleged state-sponsored ethnic violence in Manipur, India. Its objective was to provide participants (college students) with essential tools for conducting Indigenous (auto)ethnography and encouraged Indigenous tribal students to document their experiences of the ethnic violence in the face of attempted cultural genocide. This initiative is part of Tonsing's ongoing PhD dissertation, which examines the politics of digital epistemic injustice and explores ways to navigate these challenges.
