New Staff Orientation

Locations 

All newly hired Student Life staff are expected to attend New Staff Orientation. Prior registration is strongly encouraged: please register by Monday, July 8.

This Orientation, designed for all newly hired Student Life staff, will provide both a context and helpful trainings for the work we do. We will share Student Life mission, core work, values, and strategic direction, as well as a profile of our incoming class. The day will also include opportunities to interact with new and returning Student Life staff and students to explore how, together, we can contribute to an inclusive, respectful campus. Your Orientation will include the mandatory Responsible Employee Training, which is required for all Student Life staff members. Please complete registration for both the Orientation and the Responsible Employee Training.

Day 1 AM: Orientation - 9am-1pm (New Staff, Lunch Provided, REQUIRED)

Day 1 PM: Coaching, Feedback, & Trust: Supervision in Student Life - 1pm-4pm (New Student Life Supervisors)

Day 2 AM: Responsible Employee & Compliance Training - 9am-12pm (New Staff, REQUIRED)

On July 1, 2016 the University of Michigan launched a revised sexual misconduct policy titled, "The University of Michigan Policy and Procedures on Student Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct and Other Forms of Interpersonal Violence." As a staff member in Student Life, you have reporting responsibilities as it relates to this policy and Title IX. In addition, you have responsibilities to report crimes to the University as required by the Clery Act. This training is required and will help you understand the rights and responsibilities belonging to each of us as we work collectively to end sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, and sexual and gender-based discrimination and harassment in our University community.
