Bringing anti-racism to the Latinx community: exploring our complex intersectional Latinx identities
Latinx folks have a complex racial history. The racial project in Latin America was one of “blanqueamiento” (to "improve the race" towards a supposed ideal of whiteness) by European colonizers. We bring this legacy (mixed with patriarchy and heterosupremacy) to the context we are in the United States. How can we live an anti-racist life as Latinx and be in solidarity with others when we perpetuate anti-Blackness, machismo, and anti-queerness within ourselves? In this workshop, you will explore the role of our intersectional social identities and how we heal the wounds of oppression (internalized and external) to take real action to undo it.
